I promise to tell the story

It was after watching Hotel Rwanda that I was moved (somewhat slowly) to action. After all, I did watch the movie several months (over a year) ago. After watching this movie on DVD I promised to tell the story. The story of genocide. I will not be silent.

Reading the book Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen moved me this final step.

My goal is for this blog to illumine the past, to decry the present, and to insist we make a better future. We cannot sit by and allow atrocities like that in Darfur to continue.

I leave this first entry with the following quotes from Baha'u'llah, founder of the Baha'i Faith of which I am a member.

O SON OF SPIRIT!

Noble have I created thee, yet thou hast abased thyself. Rise then unto that for which thou wast created.

O SON OF SPIRIT!

I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty? Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself? Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me? Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another? Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting.
